Kathy laughed at her cousin Bree’s imitation of her sister. “But don’t get me distracted. Tell me more about this cowboy guy. It’s important. I’ll tell you why in a minute.”

Kathy heard a chair squeak and could picture her curvy cousin relaxing and leaning back. “I will admit Jesse Hammer is sex on a stick—up his ass. I take this whole summer camp thing really seriously and he treats it like it's open hunting season on single women. I mean, this is a special project funded by the NFL for our grandmother’s reservation, where a ton of football money provides the community a chance to give the kids something fun and useful to do. Not to mention providing me a summer job and a chance to spend more time with my grandmother. She’s one of the elders teaching the kids the local language. They have other activities to choose from but by far the most popular is horseback riding taught by (and Kathy could feel her cousin do “air quotes”) rodeo champion Jesse Hammer.”

“What does he look like? And remember—this is me—I’m actually asking what he looks like and not how he fills out his underwear.” Kathy took a sip of her cooling coffee and moved the envelope away from her mug, worried that she might spill some on the expensive paper that informed her she had just inherited her mother’s Dude Ranch. She had developed a sudden interest in how it would feel to be surrounded by real cowboys.

“Tall, dark, handsome—you know—the kind you’d probably see if you close your eyes and were told to picture a cowboy who would save you and the farm from foreclosure while singing a ballad on a guitar and doing a high noon shoot out. I suspect half of the attraction to the horses is due to Jesse's appeal to the ‘tween girls and their slightly older sisters—and let’s face it—a kid named Travis. Travis may be twelve, but it’s obvious his future lies in sequins and lip-synching Lady Gaga in gay bars. Anyway, they all find Jesse dreeeamy. Kathy laughed at how her cousin dragged that last word out.
